Single channel video and 3D animation: This project investigates an immigrants ability to construct multiple dimensions of time and space. The future becomes the past and the past becomes the future because of an immigrants desire simultaneously live in the past, present, and future. An immigrants ability to construct multiple dimensions of space happens through the preservation of culture and traditions. The costume used in this video is from an undocumented immigrant who participates in an annual carnival in Indianapolis where people from Federico's hometown have brought this tradition with them to preserve history, culture, and traditions. Regardless of cultural, social, and political dislocation an immigrant insists in creating a space where the past can exist. The 3D polygons imply the future and the costume depicts the past, as a result this creates tension, dislocation, and cultural acceptance referencing transculturation.
